With the seed investment of CAA and Mandalay Entertainment and a charismatic famed former pro athlete with a grand vision at the helm, Athlete set off to mold mind-numbing sport stats into engaging, visually digestible points of interest to appeal to the masses and be versatile enough to elicit new interactive revenue concepts.
250 years to present of stats- all relational (eg. “How does Ricky Henderson relate to David Beckham?”) and a platform friendly to both automated input and manual curation.
Every athlete profile, every stat, every multi-media asset- modular as both an interchangeable and customizable feature, but with the ability to live as an embedded widget on 3rd party web properties.
Not just reproducing on-demand sports references, but allowing them to attract new users as sharable, savable data with self-engaging angles specific to individual users.
Having all that data doesn’t do much good if it can only live in one place. A robust API to attract strategic partnerships was necessary as both a high-margin revenue stream and growth vessel.
Modules, modules, modules. With the intent of making miles and miles of data appealing and viral to both the super user and average trivia bystander, Athlete had an ambitious agenda to democratize usage of the data for personalization and platform agnostic revenue streams.
Sports, team, athlete, and venue profiles with something for everyone. Simplified walls of data for the historical sports junkie, dynamic media for the individual athlete and team super fans, or simply relatable and relational points of interest for the casual browser (eg. “How many athletes went to my college and share my birthday?”).
Brandable opportunities for both athletes to share in revenue streams. Partnering with the athlete labor unions of every major sport allowed Athlete to have direct access to current and former professional athletes to promote their sponsors and causes.
Brandable opportunities for relevant streams of content and related advertisements which organically make sense, remaining unobtrusive to the user and maintaining Athelete’s curated modular brand as a whole.
